The Audacity Newsletter #10: Get Yourself to Augusta on Saturday 4/5

The Audacity: Creative Action Together | AudacityCAT.com | Newsletter #10 | 4-01-25

Most newsletters from The Audacity so far have focused on many opportunities, meetings, events, and actions.  In this newsletter, we're going to focus on one event because of its importance. Media, politicians, and citizen groups of all stripes will have their eye on turnout to assess: is the pro-democracy movement significant?  With the descent into dictatorship proceeding at an alarmingly fast rate, the answer had better be a "Yes."  It's only going to be a "Yes" if you, your friends, your allies, your acquaintances, and your neighbors show up to Augusta.

On Saturday, April 5, HEAD TO THE MAINE STATE HOUSE AUGUSTA at NOON to protest if you can manage it at all -- and bring three friends with you.

On Saturday, April 5 from Noon to 2 PM, a National "Hands Off!" Rally holds its largest Maine gathering in Augusta at the Maine State House.  The call reads: "Hands off our government, our democratic institutions, our freedoms, our Medicaid, our Medicare, our Social Security, our courts, our immigrant neighbors, our personal data, our reproductive rights, our jobs, our elections, our LGBTQIA+ friends... HANDS OFF!"  For national information, visit http://handsoff2025.com. For more information on the statewide protest rallying point in Augusta, see the Mobilize page for the event at https://www.mobilize.us/handsoff/event/764545/ : "They're taking everything they can get their hands on—our health care, our data, our jobs, our services—and daring the world to stop them. This is a crisis, and the time to act is now. This mass mobilization day is our message to the world that we do not consent to the destruction of our government and our economy for the benefit of Trump and his billionaire allies. Alongside Americans across the country, we are marching, rallying, and protesting to demand a stop the chaos and build an opposition movement against the looting of our country."

IF YOU WANT TO CARPOOL TO AUGUSTA this Saturday, here are two ways to do it:

Ride Share Method 1.  Meet at MacDougal Park on Broadway in Rockland.  Annie Kiermaier has offered a straightforward way to share rides to Augusta: "People interested in ride sharing on Saturday April 5 to the rally in Augusta are invited to meet at the Macdougal parking lot on Broadway in Rockland by 10:30. We will need time to drive, park, and possibly walk a distance to the capitol building if there are large crowds. We are not organizing cars and riders ahead of time, just seeing who can share a ride."

Here’s a map of where MacDougal Park is, in case you don’t know:

Ride Share Method 2.  If you use Facebook, comment on this thread -- https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=pfbid02wDUf4kCMJU6NpynjF9BE5CwN6h4RhJj68ecigDmFWiFsDLAkB44yJtWgSUCnvAuNl&id=61571976286825 -- to offer a ride if you have a car or to ask for a ride if you don't have a car.

On Saturday, April 5, get to Rockland's Chapman Park if you can't get to Augusta.

For those who aren't able to go all the way to Augusta this Saturday, Paula Coil and Shlomit Auciello will be coordinating a Saturday at Noon presence in Rockland in Chapman Park (at the corner of Park and Main Streets).

As of this morning, there are 1,086 people signed up for this newsletter.  Imagine what would happen if every one of us turned out in Augusta.  Be one of the 1,086 that does... that's the way for your imaginings to come true.
