On November 4, 2025, Maine voters will be asked to vote on Ballot Question 1, a referendum that proposes a variety of new limits designed to make absentee voting significantly more difficult and intended also to limit forms of identification that can be used to vote. 40% of Maine votes absentee, so the proposed changes are consequential. Moreover, evidence shows voter fraud is not a real or current problem either in Maine or nationally.
Audacity, Creative Action Together, a non-partisan Midcoast activist group, will hold a Public Forum on Ballot Question 1 on Monday, October 20 from 6-8 pm at the First Universalist Church, 345 Broadway, Rockland. Our panel, facilitated by Annie Kiermaier of the Maine Unitarian Universalist State Advocacy Network, will feature Andy O’Brien of the AFL-CIO, Greg Marley of the Knox County Democratic Party, Patty Sprague of the League of Women Voters, and Jesse Hargrove of the Maine Education Association. The Forum will clarify the provisions of the referendum and, to ensure a full discussion of the referendum, respond to questions and comments.
Democracy depends on informed voting. Audacity wants voters to know how important Ballot Question 1 is. We want to ensure Mainers vote on November 4, and work to make sure also that every eligible voter is registered. Join us on October 20, 2025, for this hugely necessary public exchange!
